Did you hear the news that Telegraph is finally making an IPA? Yep, you heard right. We've always liked a good, hoppy IPA here at the brewery, but we've never brewed one. Why? Well, because everyone else brewed them and we just weren't sure what we could add to that beer conversation. But we rethought that. And put our collective brewing heads together, and tried a whole bunch of different IPAs.

Then we sat down, took a good long look at our brewhouse, and then we brewed our IPA. And it's a good one too: big, juicy grapefruit peel bitterness and the aromas of ripe pineapple and tropical fruit balance perfectly with enough malt to give the beer a satisfying body, but not so much as to keep the beer from having a nice dry finish. Come on down to the brewery soon and let us know what you think!

Happy Thanksgiving! Please be sure to plan ahead for your Turkey Day celebrations. The tasting room will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but we will be open regular hours for the rest of the weekend. Remember nothing goes better with pumpkin pie than Telegraph Winter Ale, and nothing goes better with Thanksgiving leftovers than a fresh growler of California Ale!

Cheers everyone... have a fun, safe, and responsible holiday!

Fiesta is just around the corner! Santa Barbara's annual summer celebration of all things Spanish and Mexican, reflecting our fascinating history here in town, means the biggest party of the year! Our annual Fiesta-sinspired beer Cerveza de Fiesta Pilsner, is available now all over town and here at the tasting room.

This beer is a classic Bohemian-style Pilsner, meaning it's a bit maltier and has a bit more body than a German-style Pilsner. It is crisp and refreshing, especially with this heat! Look for the beer on draft and in bottles, and of course you can grab a pint and a growler here at the tasting room! Viva!

Beer and music go hand in hand, but that is just one of the ways our collaboration with the band Buellton makes so much sense. Here at the brewery, we share a friendship with the guys in the band, as well as a similar approach to doing things, a similar aesthetic, and similar tastes. We are pleased to announce that Telegraph is releasing Buellton's new record, Silent Partner, as a bottle of beer. The beer, also called Silent Partner, is a Belgian-style saison, with a complex citrusy aroma, creamy mouthfeel, and satisfyingly dry finish. The bottle label contains the track listing for the album, and a digital download code to access the music is found between the cork and the cage.

Visit to watch the video for Silent Partner's lead track "Painting the Cave" and to download the record.

Well, our vaguely autumn-like weather has finally arrived here in Santa Barbara, and that must mean that our Winter Ale is available. Nothing pairs quite as nicely with Thanksgiving desserts as our Mexican-style hot chocolate-inspired beer, with its hints of cinnamon, allspice, and Ancho chilis. It really feels seasonal. Bottles are available at the brewery and around town just in time for the holiday weekend.

Speaking of the holiday weekend, we're open Tuesday and Wednesday this week until 8 pm to ensure you have the growlers, bottles, and kegs you need to make your Thanksgiving festive. We'll be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but we will be open on Friday and Saturday from 2 pm to 10 pm, and then also on Sunday from 1 pm to 7 pm.

Please everyone have a wonderful and safe holiday with your friends and relatives!

We've got lots of exciting things going on this week! First off, we're rolling out our beer in Arizona. We've teamed up with Hensley Beverage Co. to bring a taste of Santa Barbara to the desert. We have two events scheduled in the Phoenix area... if you live in the Grand Canyon State, we'd love to see you there!

Both events will have special limited-release beers on hand. Sour Cherry Kriek anyone? Or how about Reserve Wheat Berliner Weisse? Bourbon-barrel aged saison? Or our Winter Ale, a beer inspired by Mexican hot chocolate with cinnamon, allspice, and Ancho chilis? All great stuff!

Wednesday, Nov 20
5:30 pm -7:30 pm
Roll-out party at Whole Foods Chandler
2955 W. Ray Rd, Chandler, AZ 85224

Thursday, Nov 21
6 - 8 pm
Roll-out party at Angels Trumpet Ale House
810 N 2nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

On top of all that, we also have an event on Thursday night up in San Francisco, where we'll be pouring at the 2013 BevMo! Holiday Beer Fest at Fort Mason. From 6 pm to 10 pm, we'll be pouring Winter Ale and Ravena Stout to all you thirsty revelers looking to kick off the holiday season in proper ale-soaked style.

October 24, 2013

The new tasting room is open! After a very long construction project, we are so pleased to be able to tell you that we have re-opened to the public. The move to our new facility (immediately next door to our old brewery) is finally complete and the best part is our new, extended tasting room hours. You can now come by Telegraph Tuesdays through Thursdays from 2 pm to 8 pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 2 pm to 10 pm, and Sundays from noon to 6 pm for brewery-fresh beer, growlers and bottles to go, and a whole new array of fun apparel. Our new address is 418 N. Salsipuedes St., between Haley and Gutierrez Sts., in downtown Santa Barbara.

With ten taps pouring all of our year-round and seasonal beers, you'll find something for every taste. Right now we're pouring our award-winning California Ale, Stock Porter, White Ale, Ravena Stout, Prime Meridian, Rye Extra Pale, and our 1927 Ale. Come on down this weekend and check out our beautiful new facility!

October 16, 2013

Telegraph wins bronze! This past weekend, we won a bronze medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival (GABF), marking the third year in a row in which we've won awards at the world's largest beer competition.

We were awarded a bronze medal in the Belgian- and French-Style Ale category for our flagship California Ale, a Belgian-Style Pale Ale characterized by its deep amber color and complex, earthy flavors and aromas. Many congrats to our entire brewing staff... their hard work in the brewhouse continues to pay off for all of us in delicious, award-winning beer. Cheers guys!

August 29, 2013

We're moving to a new brewery! Yep, Telegraph is moving on up to 418 N. Salsipuedes, immediately next door to our current facility and we'll be up and running there in mid-September. Unfortunately, that means that our old tasting room is closed and the new tasting room isn't quite ready to go. We'll keep you informed about when our new 10 taps will be pouring, but until then, bear with us, and we apologize for any inconvenience. Cheers!

May 9, 2013

The California Beer Festival at Sea cruise ship floats into Santa Barbara harbor today. To celebrate, we'll have special all day tasting room hours today. From 11 am to 6 pm, we'll be open for tastings, pints, and beer to go. Swing by and enjoy a beautiful spring day with us here in Santa Barbara!

April 19, 2013

Our construction project is progressing next door... for those of you who haven't been following along with us, Telegraph is expanding! We're taking over the building immediately next door to our current facility and greatly increasing our brewing capacity. It's a big project to say the least, but we do hope to be open by early summer at the new building. Stay tuned for details!

In the meantime, come by the tasting room at our current facility today and tomorrow for fun tasting room hours. We'll have Los Padres Saison, our dry-hopped Belgian farmhouse-style ale back on tap. Come try some... cheers!

November 12, 2012

What are our Thanksgiving weekend hours? Glad you asked! The brewery and the tasting room will be closed on Thursday, but we'll have normal tasting room hours on Friday (from 4 pm to 8 pm) and on Saturday (from 2 pm to 6 pm). If you have relatives in town, bring them by and show them how great Santa Barbara beer can be!

If you need bottles or growlers for your Thanksgiving celebration (our Winter Ale makes for a killer pairing with pumpkin pie!), we'll be open on Monday through Wednesday until about 5 pm each day for beer to go. If you're having a big party and need a keg, give us some head's up and we'll reserve a keg and a tap for you. Cheers!

November 5, 2012

Here are some upcoming events you won't want to miss: as part of San Diego Beer Week, we'll host a Telegraph Tap Takeover at Local Habit in SD's Hillcrest district on Wednesday, Nov. 6; on Sunday, Nov. 11, Morro Bay's Libertine Pub will do a Local's Tap Takeover, featuring Telegraph Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stock Porter as one of a dozen or so Central Coast beers on tap; and then, for your NorCal Telegraph fans, on Saturday, Nov. 17, we'll be pouring at the BevMo Holiday Beer Fest at San Francisco's Fort Mason... we'll have Winter Ale and the last keg of the 2012 Ravena Stout. Hope you can make it!

October 15, 2012

Another great time in Denver at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival and we're blown away to have two more silver medals around our necks. Rhinoceros took a silver medal in the Belgian Strong Ale category and Petit Obscura took a silver in the Experimental Beer category! That's four GABF medals in the past year (one gold, three silver) and two World Beer Cup medals (one gold, one bronze). Come by our tasting room soon and judge Telegraph's beer for yourself!

October 8, 2012

Lots of people have been asking us what we'll be pouring at the Great American Beer Festival this week in Denver. Scott will be there all week with plenty of beer: California Ale, Stock Porter, Rhinoceros, Gypsy Ale, and Cerveza de Fiesta! Tickets to this beer blowout sold out long ago (in record time this year), so if you can't make it to Colorado, start planning your trip for next year, and go buy tickets for the Santa Barbara Beer Festival coming up at Elings Park on October 20. Hope to see you there!

July 31, 2012

Santa Barbara Fiesta is here! Kick things off right with a keg of our Cerveza de Fiesta Pilsner and tacos or tamales... get out there and celebrate Santa Barbara heritage at one of the many cultural and culinary Fiesta events. Viva!

July 19, 2012

As of this weekend, our Abbey Ale makes its return to the Telegraph tasting room. This is a big, full-bodied mahogany ale, reminiscent of Belgium's finest Trappist beers. There isn't a whole lot of it to go around, so if you don't want to miss out, make a point of coming by the brewery in the next few weeks. Thursdays 4 to 6 pm, Fridays 4 to 8 pm, and Saturdays 2 to 6 pm. Cheers!

May 24, 2012

The unofficial start of summer is here! For everyone planning their Memorial Day BBQs, remember if you need beer, we're not open on Sundays, and we're going to be closed this Monday too. Come by the tasting room for your growler, keg, and bottle needs Thursday from 4 to 6 pm, Friday from 4 to 8 pm, and Saturday from 2 to 6 pm. Keg reservations are filling up too, so let us know soon if you need a keg. Cheers everyone!

May 5, 2012

The World Beer Cup is an international beer competition held every two years. This year it drew nearly 4,000 entries from 850 different breweries in almost 60 countries. This means you are putting your beer up against the best in the world. And winning a medal means your beer is judged to be one of the best in the world. We're so happy to say that Telegraph won two medals at the 2012 WBC! Our Petit Obscura took gold in the Experimental Beer category and our Rhinoceros Rye Wine took a bronze in the other Belgian-Style Ale category. We are really happy with the results!

We'll be releasing bottles of each of our award-winning beers soon. So keep your eyes on this page, or on our Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter (@TelegraphBrew)!

February 8, 2012

Just in time for Valentine's Day, our Obscura Cacao--ale brewed with whole cocoa beans and aged on cocoa nibs--is available! This is a beer brewed in collaboration with our friends at Twenty-Four Blackbirds Chocolate, a micro-chocolatier here in Santa Barbara. It's a fun beer, and a great alternative to that heart-shaped box of candies! Swing by the brewery to pick up a bottle, or find it around town at your favorite beer retailer!

December 19, 2011

What is our holiday schedule here at the brewery, you ask? Well... our tasting room will be closed on Christmas Eve, but we will be open on Thursday, Dec. 22, and Friday, Dec. 23, for our normal tasting room hours. And if you need to pick up a growler or a gift certificate, we'll be here all day on those days. As for New Year's Weekend we'll have our normal hours all weekend long. That's Thursday from 4 to 6 pm, Friday from 4 to 8 pm, and on New Year's Eve from 2 to 6 pm. If you need a keg for your NYE party, reserve early because demand will be high.

Have a happy and safe holiday season and thanks for all the support in 2011! Here's to a great start to the New Year!

November 17, 2011

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. If you need a keg, bottles, or a growler, keep in mind that we'll be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, Nov. 25. We will be open on Saturday the 26th, from 2 to 6 pm for our normal tasting room hours. Have a great holiday!

October 1, 2011

Telegraph wins Gold and Silver at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival in Denver! Telegraph was awarded a gold medal in the Belgian- and French-style Ale category for its flagship California Ale, and a silver medal in the Experimental Beer category for its Petit Obscura, a sour-mash, wild-ale, "small beer". We're honored to be recognized by the GABF and its distinguished panel of judges, and thrilled to win two medals at the world's biggest beer competition!

Thanks to everyone who has sent us congratulations!

September 29, 2011

What are we pouring at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver? Here's the line-up... check the "Our Beer" page for descriptions!

California Ale

White Ale

Cerveza de Fiesta Pilsner

Rhinoceros Rye Wine

Petit Obscura

Wish we were there in person at the GABF! Cheers to all the attendees!

August 1, 2011

It's Fiesta Season again here in Santa Barbara, and that means that our Cerveza de Fiesta Pilsner is available again. This is our version of a classic, Bohemian-style pilsner: lots of big malt character balanced with the traditional Saaz hop flavors and aroma. It's crisp and refreshing and the perfect accompaniment to great Mexican food and old and new friends. Look for bottles and draft Fiesta Pilsner around town, and of course if you need a keg for your own Fiesta, let us know. We have kegs, growlers, and 750-ml bottles waiting for you here at the brewery! Viva la Fiesta!

June 28, 2011

Need a keg for your Fourth of July BBQ? Our tasting room is open the usual hours this week (Thurs 4-6 pm, Fri 4-8 pm, and Sat 2-6 pm). Come by and taste what we have on tap and grab a five-gallon or a 15.5-gallon keg for yourself! Just like last weekend, keg demand is high for this holiday weekend, so if you need a keg, please let us know sooner than later.

June 21, 2011

Happy Summer Solstice, everyone! Santa Barbara locals know that Solstice weekend is a fun one, with the big Solstice parade, and an all-day party at Alameda Park. If you need a keg for your own Solstice party, let us know soon, demand is high this week.

We had a great time last weekend at the Celebrate! Beer Festival held at Ojai Beverage Co. Thanks to Joby and Jorge and their crew for another terrific festival with so much great beer and great food. It really was one of the best festivals we've ever done. See you there again next year!

May 15, 2011

This week, May 16-22, is American Craft Beer Week. That means microbreweries and brewpubs all across the country are hosting special events, tastings, beer dinners, and doing all they can to support great beer. And Telegraph is joining the fun!

All weekend long at our tasting room, starting tomorrow evening from 4 to 6, we'll be pouring some special beers in addition to our regular line-up. Come get free sample tastes of Obscura Arborea, our new oak-aged Flemish sour brown ale. Or how about some vintage Rhinoceros Rye Wine? We'll pull a few other surprises out of our hats, too, so grab some friends and be sure to come by Santa Barbara's favorite local brewery this weekend (Thursday 4-6 pm, Friday 4-8 pm, and Saturday 2-6 pm) and help us celebrate!

April 25, 2011

We're rolling out some new beers in the next month. Our latest bottle offering, Telegraph Obscura Arborea, is a Flanders-style sour brown ale that we aged with oak and lactobacillus. It has rich dried fruit flavors and a bracingly refreshing tartness that makes this one quaffable wild ale. Aromas of cherries and brown sugar round this beer out nicely. Bottles will be available at the brewery in the next few days and soon will be available in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Bay Area. Look for it!

Many of you fondly remember our Pilsner from last summer. Well, get ready, because Telegraph Cerveza de Fiesta rides again just in time for Memorial Day. Kegs will be available first, at the tasting room and at select bars and restaurants around Santa Barbara. Bottles will follow in July and we'll certainly have plenty ready for Santa Barbara Fiesta in early August.

February 1, 2011

So it already made its debut last month in San Francisco, but we want to tell you more about our Petit Obscura. This is a new sour "wild ale" made with the second runnings of a batch of the Rhinoceros Rye Wine... it's a small beer with a twist, available in 750-ml bottles only, starting this month at the tasting room and around Southern California. Also look for Reserve Wheat bottles and Rhinoceros bottles available very soon.

January 15, 2011

Telegraph is hitting the road this week and heading north to The City by the Bay. We have two events in San Francisco to tell you about.

On Thursday night, January 20, from 6 to 8 pm, we'll be at the City Beer Store (1168 Folsom Street, between 7th and 8th) south of Market hosting a full line up of Telegraph sour beers. These "wild ales" have been fermented with wild yeast to create uniquely complex and sour flavors. The line-up includes the tasting-room favorite Reserve Wheat Ale, the last few cases of our delicious Gypsy Ale, and the debut of some new beers including Petit Obscura, Obscura Amber, and Obscura Blonde.

Then, on Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30, you'll find us at the Jug Shop (1590 Pacific at Polk), one of San Francisco's premier bottle shops, for the debut of our new batch of the Rhinoceros Rye Wine, our 10% ABV barleywine-style ale. It's a delicious batch, and if you can't make it to this event, don't worry, we'll have bottles available at the brewery next week and it will start showing up on a shelf near you in early February.

December 20, 2010

We know how well Telegraph beers go with holiday festivities. Just be sure that if you need to get a keg or a growler from us, you plan ahead, because we like celebrating the holidays with our friends and families too, and the brewery will be closed on select days in the coming weeks.

If you need beer for Christmas, we'll be here from 9 to 5 on Monday through Wednesday of this week, with normal tasting room hours until 6 pm on Thursday. But the tasting room will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Come by on New Year's Eve for some pre-countdown festivities and beer specials, but we will be closed on New Year's Day.

Note, too, that we will have new Saturday tasting room hours starting on January 8, 2011. The tasting room will be open from 2 pm to 6 pm on Saturdays, instead of 1 pm to 4 pm. We look forward to seeing you here at the brewery soon... Happy New Year!

December 3, 2010

We are very proud to announce that Telegraph White Ale has been named one of Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Top 25 Beers of 2010!

Their editors describe it as "quite fragrant with typical witbier aromas of white florals, chamomile, orange pith, soft pear and a touch of coriander... flavors of banana peel, sweet grass, tart citrus and a kick of white pepper on the finish. Crisp and refreshing..." And if that doesn't make you thirsty, I don't know what will!

Read the article and come by and drink some White Ale at the tasting room to help us celebrate!

November 15, 2010

This Saturday, November 20, at San Francisco's Fort Mason, we'll be pouring a couple of our winter beers at the BevMo Holiday Beer Fest. The event features an incredible list of holiday beers from throughout the world, all in a beautiful setting with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. The event runs 5:30 to 9 pm this Saturday. Tickets are still available and are $40 pre-sale.

It's that time of year where all sorts of interesting beers get released. Our own holiday tradition here at Telegraph is our Winter Ale, a beer inspired by Mexican hot chocolate and spiced with cinnamon, allspice, and sweet and smokey Ancho chili peppers. It's a rich, dark chocolatey brew that is sure to warm up even the coldest of nights. Bottles are available now and we'll be pouring draft at the brewing starting Thanksgiving weekend.

September 29, 2010

The thermometer is making us think otherwise, but we're still going to celebrate the arrival of autumn... Telegraph Oatmeal Stout launches this weekend at the tasting room. One of our favorite seasonals, the Oatmeal Stout is a big, silky black beer with tons of roasted malt character. Much fuller bodied than our Stock Porter, this is a beer for people who like flavor. Come by Thursday, Friday, or Saturday and get a pint or a growler!

Tickets for the Santa Barbara Beer Festival at Elings Park are now available here at Telegraph. Pre-sale price is $45. If tickets are still available, they'll be $55 at the door, but the festival has sold out early for the last couple years, so be sure to snag yours soon.

September 7, 2010

This Thursday night we'll be enjoying a fantastic four-course dinner at Glen Annie Golf Course, with each of Chef Cesar Patino's dishes paired with one of our beers.

For $35 you'll enjoy scallop and shrimp ceviche paired with our Golden Wheat Ale, a pulled-pork enchilada paired with California Ale, a grilled ribeye paired with Stock Porter, and a classic mud pie with a root beer/vanilla reduction paired with our hard-to-find Abbey Ale. This is going to be one good meal!

Conact Glen Annie directly at 805-968-6400 to make reservations.

August 20, 2010

the Los Angeles Times has named Telegraph California Ale of their top 23 favorite beers. Lots of great brews are included, and we're happy to see Telegraph California Ale at number 12!

July 28, 2010

In celebration of Santa Barbara's favorite summer party, we brewed a special beer available exclusively here in our home town. Our Cerveza de Fiesta is a traditional Bohemian Pilsner, well balanced between malt flavor and hop bitterness, with a dense, rich white head. It pairs perfectly with spicy food, and will cut through the heat of that rajas soft taco or grilled Ancho-rubbed carne asada.

This limited-release beer is available around town right now, in bottles and on tap at select bars and restaurants. We'll be pouring it here at the tasting room on Fiesta weekend only (August 5-7). Remember, like Fiesta, this beer will soon be just a happy memory, so be sure to pick some up soon to enjoy at your own Fiesta celebrations.

May 12, 2010

This Friday night at the tasting room, we'll be doing another Cask Ale Night. This time it's our Stock Porter pouring English-style from a firkin right on the bar. What could be better than a traditional London porter poured in the authentic manner? Do a side-by-side with our draft Stock Porter and give yourself an education in different beer traditions!

February 26, 2010

Lots of new beer in the works here at the brewery... our Spring seasonal Robust Ale is available in bottles as of today at Whole Foods Santa Barbara and JJ's Liquor, and will roll out everywhere else in the next week. Our "wild" Reserve Wheat Ale, brewed with lemon verbena and fermented with brettanomyces and lactobacillus, will also show up in the next couple weeks. Look for the Reserve at all the Southern California Whole Foods by mid-March. And then last, but certainly not least, our 10% abv Rhinoceros rye-wine will be available around the end of March. For you fans of big beers, this one for you: it has huge body and mouthfeel, balanced with several hefty hop additions. Cheers!

January 27, 2010

Launching tomorrow at the tasting room is our English-style Brown Ale! A tantalizing blend of chocolate and caramel malts creates a distinct toasty malt character, well balanced by Cascade and Northern Brewer hops. The aroma is the classic fruity ester bouquet of cask-conditioned English "real ales". Fermented with yeast from one of England's greatest ale breweries, this traditional London-style brown ale is a departure from Telegraph's other beers, but a departure we're happy to make.

December 10, 2009

Happy holidays, everyone! Don't forget that fresh local beer makes a great gift for almost everyone on your list. And to make it as easy as possible on you, the tasting room will be open for our normal hours throughout December for your shopping and drinking pleasure. We will be closed, however, on Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25, and Friday, Jan. 1. So if you need beer for Christmas dinner or on New Year's Day, please plan accordingly.

November 16, 2009

Just in time for Thanksgiving, the beer you've been waiting for has arrived. Telegraph Winter Ale, our most sought-after seasonal beer is available on draft and in bottles starting today. Inspired by Mexican hot chocolate, and brewed with cinnamon, allspice, and sweet ancho chili peppers, our dark Winter Ale is complex and warming. Be sure to drink it cool, rather than cold, to let the great flavors shine through. It's dynamite with pumpkin pie!

We'll be closed Thanksgiving Day as well as Friday, Nov. 27. But we'll open for normal tasting room hours on Saturday, Nov. 28. Happy turkey day everyone!

October 21, 2009

Here are a few events to tell you about:

Tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 21st, Live Culture Lounge (located on Paseo Nuevo across from the movie theaters in downtown Santa Barbara) is hosting a Telegraph beer and tapas dinner. For $35, you'll get a three-course tapas meal with beer pairings. It's a great way to enjoy a fun Epicure SB event on one of the nicest Indian Summer evenings we'll have this fall!

This Friday night, from 5 pm to 8 pm, again at Live Culture Lounge, you can enjoy a cheese and beer pairing. C'est Cheese is providing the great food and Telegraph is providing the beer. Skip your usual Friday night happy hour haunt and enjoy a gourmet happy hour downtown.

And then, for our Los Angeles fans, we'll help wrap up a successful L.A. Beer Week at the L.A. Beer Week Festival at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge, near Pasadena, this Saturday. Expect over 40 breweries pouring their finest beers in a beautiful rose-garden setting from 3 pm to 8 pm. More details are available at

September 16, 2009

Well, it doesn't really feel like fall here in Santa Barbara, but we know it's just around the corner because our Oatmeal Stout is available once again. You can find several great places around town pouring our darkest beer, including the Hungry Cat and Union Ale. Down in L.A., El Prado, City Sip, The Yard, and Pure Luck Restaurant all have it, too. We're holding on to the last days of summer here at the brewery though, and will be pouring White Ale for another couple weekends at the tasting room. We'll let you know when you'll be able to come by and grab a growler of the velvety smooth Oatmeal Stout.

There are a few events coming up soon that are worth putting on your calendar. Next weekend, we are fully booked with two events in Ventura County: The California Beer Festival will be held at Mission Park in downtown Ventura on Saturday, September 26; then, on Sunday the 27th, the Camarillo Ranch is hosting their third annual Oktoberfest featuring 12 breweries and a classic car show. We'll be pouring at both events, enjoying some live music, good food, and all that great beer. Then, in October, we're looking forward to the Santa Barbara Beer Festival at Elings Park, on Saturday October 17. You can buy tickets online at the festival website, or right here at Telegraph. The $40 entrance fee benefits Elings Park and the Santa Barbara Rugby Association's community service efforts and gets you unlimited tastes at the festival. Come by the brewery for a growler and be sure pick up a couple tickets for this great event. Last year's event sold out, so plan ahead!

Also, just to sing our own praises a bit... in today's Los Angeles Times food section, Telegraph California Ale is featured as their "Beer of the Month." We're always happy to be recognized by professional tasters like this, but of course, the best recognition is the continued support of all our great customers! Thanks and cheers!

July 20, 2009

This Thursday night, July 23, from 6 pm to 8 pm, we'll be celebrating the arrival of Telegraph in Arizona at the Papago Brewing Company, located at 7107 E. McDowell Rd., in Scottsdale, AZ. They'll have three taps devoted to our beers and we'll be pouring some special bottles too, including the Rhinoceros Rye Wine. If you can't make it, but you have some friends in the Phoenix area, be sure to tell them to come by and say hello. We'll be giving away some t-shirts and other goodies. Hello Grand Canyon State!

A little closer to home, you can once again find our California Ale on draft at the Cold Springs Tavern up at the top of the San Marcos Pass. And down in L.A., you can find Telegraph at a couple more gastro-pubs: Ford's Filling Station, a celebrity-spotting mecca (its chef/owner happens to be Harrison Ford's son, Ben Ford) in downtown Culver City just up the street from the Sony Pictures lot, and at The Yard (119 Broadway in downtown Santa Monica), which features an eclectic mix of art and short-film screenings every night in addition to their great food and well-selected beer menu.

Finally, if you're looking to get away from the summer heat, head up to the town of Mammoth Lakes, high in the Sierras, for the 14th Annual Mammoth Beer Festival and Bluesapalooza, held July 31 through August 2. We'll be pouring ice-cold beer in the midst of spectacular pine trees at the beer festival on Saturday along with 70 other breweries. This is an event not to be missed! See you there...

June 2, 2009

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 3, you'll find Telegraph at a showing of Fresh: The Movie at the Santa Barbara Public Library's Faulkner Gallery. Fresh is a new movie that celebrates local food and the many people and companies that are working hard to grow and strengthen alternatives to the industrial food and beverage supply chain that dominates agriculture and our food system in the U.S. The movie screening begins at 7 pm, but come early, because starting at 6:30, you'll find tasty samples of Santa Barbara local foods paired with Telegraph brews. A suggested donation of $5 gets you food, beer, and a movie. This will be a fun and tasty evening and we hope to see you there!

At the tasting room, we've added our White Ale to the line up for the summer, replacing the Robust Ale. The Robust is still available in bottles, but until September, we'll have refreshing and citrusy White Ale on draft. Don't forget the tasting room is now open until 8 pm on Fridays.

We have some new accounts to tell you about too: here in Santa Barbara, Beachbreak Cafe (324 State Street) is pouring Telegraph Golden Wheat; in Venice on Abbot Kinney Blvd., the Other Room has California Ale back on tap; and up north, you'll find Telegraph bottles at Santa Rosa's Bottle Barn (3331 Industrial Drive) and San Francisco's Alembic (1725 Haight Street). If you have a favorite bar, restaurant, or liquor store that doesn't carry Telegraph, let them know! Tell us too and we'll do our best to get it in there.

We've had lots of requests since we first opened our brewery doors to make a barleywine, so we finally succumbed to the pressure and brewed one. But as you probably guessed, it isn't just your run-of-the-mill high-alcohol ale. No way. We used malted rye in addition to the barley, which gives a pleasant spicy character to the beer, and added lots of Cascade hops to balance all that grainy goodness. And, just for fun, and to acknowledge our use of rye, we're calling this one Telegraph Rhinoceros--it's big, bold, and powerful. And it's also hard to find. We're hoarding all the bottles here at the brewery until we release it next month, but the good news is if you find yourself in Pasadena this weekend, Lucky Baldwin's (17 S. Raymond Ave., just off Colorado Ave.) is pouring the Rhinoceros as part of their Barleywine Festival, which runs through next weekend (April 18th through 26th). So get over to the Barleywine Festival and join the charge, or check back with us soon and we'll let you know where else you'll be able to find it.

Lastly, coming up in three weeks, the Craft Beer Fest L.A. needs to be on your calendar. On May 9, from 2 pm until 9 pm, great beer takes over the EchoPlex (1154 Glendale Blvd.) in Los Angeles for a fun-filled day of beer, live music, and gourmet pub grub. We'll be there pouring lots of good stuff, including a keg of the Rhinoceros. For more details about the festival, click here. To purchase tickets online, click here.

April 3, 2009

Wanted to let everyone know that we're now keeping the tasting room open until 8 pm on Friday nights. With the sun setting later every day, the Telegraph Tap Room is the perfect place to wrap up your work week and relax with a cold pint.

March 12, 2009

For all the San Francisco fans of Telegraph, be sure to get over to the Toronado (549 Haight St.) this weekend where they have both our California Ale and our Reserve Wheat Ale on draft. You should also get over to Monk's Kettle (3141 16th St. in the Mission District) where they have California Ale on as well. Bottles of Telegraph are available at Bi-Rite Market, Healthy Spirits, Ledger's Liquors, Monument Liquors, PlumpJack Wines, and several other "better beer stores" in the Bay Area.

So what exactly is the Reserve Wheat Ale, you ask? Well, this is our latest offering here at Telegraph. It is a "wild American ale" brewed with the addition of locally grown lemon verbena herb as well as wild Brettanomyces yeast. Think sour. The beer is refreshingly tart, with a big citrus aroma. It's complex and exciting; very reminiscent of the classic Berliner Weisse style of wheat beers brewed in Germany. It's also available in extremely limited quantities, so if you want some, get it soon. Look for it in Los Angeles at Vendome, Bottle Rock, and Wade's Wines. Down in San Diego, you can find it at South Bay Drugs and at the Linkery. Here in Santa Barbara, you can get it at the brewery or at select bottle retailers around town. If you are feeling adventurous and want to try a beer unlike anything else we've brewed, pick up a bottle soon!

March 9, 2009

For the technologically inclined Telegraph fans, you can now follow us on Twitter at And, if you are on Facebook, you can become a fan of Telegraph. But don't worry if you have no idea what we're talking about... we'll continue to post our regular updates here on the website and via email!

February 20, 2009

Here at the tasting room, we're pouring our Robust Ale for the rest of the spring, along with the usual suspects of California Ale, Stock Porter, and Golden Wheat. The Robust is big and rich, with a great hoppy bite. Coming in at 7.5% abv, this beer is, in a sense, a Belgian-style IPA. And we can assure you it is delicious!

December 20, 2008

November 20, 2008

It's that wonderful time of the year again... today marks the release of our Telegraph Winter Ale. This special, limited release beer is inspired by Mexican-style hot chocolate, and is brewed with cinnamon, allspice, and ancho chili peppers, creating a complex, spiced brew that pairs perfectly with all your holiday desserts, from pumpkin pie to spice cookies to everyone's favorite December treat: fruitcake. Available starting today at the tasting room, be sure to come by and get a growler of our most sought-after seasonal beer. Bottles of our Winter Ale will be making their way out to retailers in Santa Barbara, L.A., and San Diego over the next couple weeks, and you'll find it in limited release at select draft accounts as well. Don't miss out!

There are a couple Telegraph events coming up soon, too, that you won't want to miss if you live in L.A. or San Diego. On Thursday, Dec. 4, from 7 to 10 pm, the Blue Palms Brewhouse in Hollywood (6124 Hollywood Blvd.) will be hosting a Telegraph Feature Night. They'll be pouring four of our beers, including the Winter Ale, with beer specials and a raffle during the evening. We'll be there enjoying the scene, so definitely come out and say hello. Then, on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 5 to 9 pm, San Diego County's Stone Brewing will host a "Keep the Glass Night" featuring our Oatmeal Stout, Golden Wheat Ale, and a special cask of Winter Ale aged with chocolate and whole ancho chilis. Best of all, you'll get to keep the Telegraph logo pint glasses! Stone Brewing World Bistro is located in Escondido at 1999 Citracado Parkway.

October 15, 2008

This Saturday marks a not-to-be-missed beer event here in town: the Santa Barbara Beer Festival at Elings Park. The festivities kick off at noon and run until four, with live music and over 40 different beers. We'll be there pouring all afternoon, enjoying the bands and a great selection of beers from all over California. Come on out and say hello; if you haven't had a chance to try our Oatmeal Stout yet, this is the perfect opportunity. For more information about the festival, and to purchase advance tickets, visit

September 4, 2008

We wanted to send a reminder about our pint night at Elsie's Pub (117 W. de la Guerra St.) this Saturday night, Sept. 6th. At 10 p.m. (not 8 p.m. as originally announced) Elsie's will start pouring a keg of our special White Ale aged with farmer's market cherries. For every pint you buy, you get to keep the Telegraph logo goblet glass (at least while supplies last...)! We'll be there handing out some free t-shirts and attempting to run the pool table, so come by and say hello and get a glass of this very limited availability beer as summer in Santa Barbara starts to wind down.

Also... add a few more L.A.-area bars and restaurants to the list of places serving Telegraph: Naja's Place on the boardwalk in Redondo Beach; El Prado in Echo Park (1805 W. Sunset Blvd. at Glendale Blvd.); and Barbara's at the Brewery (The Brewery is an old industrial complex that has been converted to an live/work artist colony near downtown L.A. on North Main St. just west of I-5). All three are very cool places with terrific selections of California microbrews and are definitely worth checking out. Cheers!

August 19, 2008

For all our L.A.-area Telegraph fans, here is something you won't want to miss: This Friday evening, August 22, the Daily Pint in Santa Monica (2310 Pico Blvd. at 23rd St.) will be tapping a cask of Telegraph White Ale aged with farmer's market cherries. The bright fruit flavors pair wonderfully with our refreshing Belgian-style wheat beer for a perfect summer pint. The cask will go fast and will certainly be empty by the end of the night, so don't delay!

Don't despair if you don't live in L.A. and you can't make it to the Daily Pint... Elsie's Pub (117 W. de la Guerra St.) in downtown Santa Barbara will have a keg of the same cherry-infused White Ale for a Telegraph Pint Night on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 8 pm. For every Telegraph you buy, you get to keep the glass (at least while supplies last...)! We'll be there handing out some free t-shirts and attempting to run the pool table, so come by and say hello and get a glass of this very limited availability beer as summer in Santa Barbara starts to wind down.

Cooler weather on the horizon means the Telegraph Oatmeal Stout isn't too far away. We plan on having it available at the brewery in mid-September... we'll let you know precisely when in the next few weeks. Cheers!

July 21, 2008

One of the highlights of the Southern California summer beer season is the Mammoth Lakes Bluesapalooza and Beer Festival. This year it's being held on August 1st and 2nd high in the Sierra in Mammoth Lakes. We'll be there pouring four different beers and enjoying the blues along with more than twenty other California breweries at this great festival. Don't miss out!

July 2, 2008

Just a reminder: if you need growlers or a keg for a Fourth of July barbecue, be sure to come by on Thursday because the brewery will be closed on Friday, July 4. Our tasting room hours this week will be 4 - 6 pm on Thursday, and 1 - 4 pm on Saturday. Have a great holiday!

June 17, 2008

We have lots of Telegraph news to pass along including a couple upcoming beer dinners, some new bars and restaurants, and a music event right here at the brewery.

First the beer dinners: on Sunday, June 22, Rustic Canyon in Santa Monica (1119 Wilshire Blvd.) will host a dinner pairing five delicious courses with beers from Telegraph, Craftsman, and other great breweries. For more information, click here. And then, a little closer to home, SpiritLand Bistro, at the corner of Garden St. and Victoria St. in downtown Santa Barbara, will host a Telegraph beer dinner on Wednesday, July 2. This will be a four-course dinner, each paired with a different Telegraph brew. SpiritLand focuses on organic, sustainably raised foods, so you can feel good about every fantastic bite. They will also provide a vegetarian option. For reservations call 805-966-7759.

There are two new places pouring Telegraph that you need to know about. Here in Santa Barbara, the recently renovated Chilango's Latin Gourmet (503 State St.) now has Telegraph on draft to pair with their killer burritos and other Mexican fare. And down in San Diego, the brand-new Toronado (4026 30th St.) beer bar--the SoCal outpost of San Francisco's famed Toronado--will feature Telegraph on their constantly changing 50 taps. It's a great place to try lots of rare beer offerings.

Lastly, coming up in less than two weeks, we'll be hosting a music event right here at the tasting room. On Friday, June 27th, Austin-based lo-fi indie rockers Peter and the Wolf will play an acoustic set at Telegraph as they make their way up the California coast on their current tour. The band plays atmospheric, personal songs with real passion and the show will be worth much more than the $5 cover charge. The opening band will start at 8 pm, our doors open at 7:30.

May 30, 2008

For all the San Diego fans of Telegraph, we have an event coming up that you won't want to miss. On Saturday, June 14, Hamilton's Tavern in San Diego's South Park neighborhood (1521 30th Street), will be hosting their monthly "Second Saturday" event featuring Telegraph. We'll have seven (!!!) different brews on draft all going for $3.50 a pint from 5 - 8 pm. In addition to our current line-up of the White Ale, the California Ale, the Stock Porter, and the Golden Wheat Ale, they'll also be pouring our Robust Ale, a bourbon-barrel-aged Stock Porter, and a special cask-conditioned firkin of our White Ale aged with farmer's market cherries. Hamilton's will provide complimentary food pairings, including gourmet cheeses specially chosen to pair well with the cherry-infused White Ale. We'll be down there with some t-shirts and a double-magnum bottle of California Ale. Come out and celebrate with us!

April 28, 2008

Just in time for the hot weather here in Santa Barbara, our Telegraph White Ale is now available. This is our interpretation of the classic Belgian wit style of beer, known as "white beer" because of its pale and cloudy appearance. We brew ours with orange peel, coriander, and locally grown chamomile flowers, giving the beer a subtle floral and citrusy character. At under 5% alcohol, this is a great, refreshing beer for sipping on warm afternoons. Come by the brewery and have a pint or grab a growler.

You can also try our White Ale this Saturday at the Hotel Mar Monte. We are teaming up with the talented kitchen staff at the hotel's newly renovated Bistro 1111 for another beer pairing dinner. This is a three-course meal, each course paired with a different Telegraph beer. So if you are in need of a good meal and some good beer, all with a great view of East Beach, head down to the Hotel Mar Monte (1111 Cabrillo Blvd.) on Saturday and you'll get all of that and more.

In the coming weeks, Telegraph will be pouring beer at all sorts of great events. Don't miss us at the I Madonnari Street-Painting Festival at the Santa Barbara Mission on Memorial Day weekend. We'll be at the California Festival of Beers at Avila Beach on May 24; and also at the end of May, Lucky Baldwin's Pub in Pasadena will be hosting an entire Telegraph Week (May 24-June 1) with six different Telegraph beers on tap, t-shirts, pint glasses, and a special giant bottle of Telegraph that we'll open to kick off the celebration.

February 25, 2008

Telegraph has two great events coming up that will undoubtedly appeal to different crowds, but both are worth attending. This coming Saturday, March 1, from 12 to 4 pm, Gainey Vineyards, in the Santa Ynez Valley, is hosting an MDA charity event called the Winter Wine Down. The afternoon will feature tastes of local wines and beers, as well as gourmet snacks provided by some of the best chefs in our region. For more information, click here.

And then for something completely different, on Wednesday, March 5, Brooklyn-based "punk-rock orchestra" The World/Inferno Friendship Society will be playing at La Casa de la Raza (corner of Calle Cesar Chavez and Montecito St.) with a couple local bands. KCSB 91.9 FM and Telegraph are sponsoring the event, which will feature a beer garden, performance art, and a riding demonstration by members of the BiCi Centro Bicycle Collective. So if you are looking for some alternative culture, this is an event not to be missed. $10 gets you in at the door, which opens at 7 pm. For more information visit

On the beer front, we have added several new Los Angeles-area accounts: The Third Stop in Beverly Hills, Old Town Pub in downtown Pasadena, The Hungry Cat in Hollywood, The York Pub in Highland Park, and Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. Further down the coast in the San Diego area, you can find Telegraph at Hamilton's Tavern in the South Park neighborhood, and also at The Linkery in the North Park neighborhood. You can also occasionally find us on draft at Stone Brewing's World Bistro and Gardens at their brewery in Escondido.

January 26, 2008

For you Bay Area fans of Telegraph, you can find our bottles at the City Beer Store in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood (1168 Folsom St., between 7th and 8th). They have limited quantities, but we'll do the best we can to keep them stocked.

If you haven't had any yet, grab some Telegraph Winter Ale while you can. 750-ml cork-finished bottles are available around town and of course you can pick up a growler here at the brewery.

November 19, 2007

It's that time of the year again! Telegraph Winter Ale is now available at the brewery in pints and growlers. And you'll start to see 750-ml, cork-finished bottles showing up around town in the next couple weeks. Get it while you can… before you realize it, Santa Barbara's winter weather will be gone and so will our Winter Ale.

Telegraph California Ale is moving further south: our beer is now available on several more taps in the Los Angeles area. Look for Telegraph at Smokin' Jack's Barbecue in downtown Burbank (220 N. San Fernando Blvd.), Lucky Baldwin's in downtown Pasadena (17 S. Raymond Ave.), The OtheRoom in Venice (1201 Abbot Kinney Blvd.), at Pure Luck Restaurant in East Hollywood (707 N Heliotrope Dr. at Melrose Ave.), and at Lucky Devils in Hollywood (6613 Hollywood Blvd.).

October 26, 2007

Telegraph California Ale is on draft at one of Southern California's truly great beer bars: Father's Office in Santa Monica (1018 Montana Ave. at 10th St.) has added us to their selection of fine beers. So if you're craving a great burger with a great pint of Telegraph, Father's Office is the place to go. Just remember that F.O. is small and popular, and there is often a line to get in. The secret is to snag a table early and work your way down their incredible beer list!

We've also added our Stock Porter to the beer list at Piatti Ristorante in Montecito's upper village (516 San Ysidro Road at East Valley Rd.). With the cooler weather descending upon on here in Santa Barbara, a warm plate of pasta and a cool pint of Telegraph Stock Porter will certainly satisfy.

Here at the brewery, we're pouring a new fall seasonal brew: Telegraph Harvest Wheat Ale. This is a Bavarian-style amber weizen that shares the spicy clove aromas of a hefeweizen with a hint of caramel and toasted grain flavor. It's both satisfying and easy to drink, perfect for a nice fall afternoon. We'll be pouring pints and growlers until late November when our Telegraph Winter Ale launches, just in time for Thanksgiving. Come by and try some soon!

We'll be open until 6 pm on Halloween to fill growlers.

September 25, 2007

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, head down to Camarillo for the First Annual Camarillo Ranch Oktoberfest and Classic Car Show, which will be held this Sunday, September 30, from 11 am to 4 pm, at the historic Rancho Camarillo (201 Camarillo Ranch Rd., Camarillo, CA). Tickets are $20 and include admission to the beer festival and car show; car show-only tickets are $5. We'll be at the event pouring our award-winning beers, along with lots of other Southern California breweries pouring 30 different brews. See you there!

September 10, 2007

The 2007 Los Angeles County Fair Commercial Beer Competition results were just announced and we're very pleased to tell you that, for the second year in a row, Telegraph won two medals! Our Telegraph Golden Wheat Ale took Silver in the Belgian- and French-style Ale category and our Telegraph Stock Porter took Bronze in the Experimental Beer category. Lots of well-known beers and breweries won awards in this competition, so we are extremely excited to be honored with two medals. If you want to check out the other winners and see who we were up against, you can view the complete results here.

On another note, we've recently added some new restaurants in downtown Santa Barbara to our list of places where you can find our award-winning beers on draft. Enjoy our Stock Porter at Quantum Restaurant (201 W. Carrillo St. at De La Vina, 805-962-5999) and be sure to have a pint of our California Ale at Epiphany Restaurant (21 W. Victoria St., 805-564-7100). Cheers!

August 8, 2007

We have a new beer on draft at the brewery, so come by soon for a pint or to fill up your growler with our Telegraph Oatmeal Stout! This is a very dark beer that unites the rich, roasted malt flavors of a traditional British-style cream stout with a silky smooth mouthfeel imparted by the addition of whole-grain oats to the mash. Brewed to celebrate the recent wedding of two lovers of dark, creamy beers, our interpretation of this classic style is bigger and bolder than some other examples out there. Pair our Oatmeal Stout with smoky barbecued meats, an intense Mexican mole sauce, or a dark chocolate dessert and get ready to swoon...

The other exciting news we have is for our Los Angeles-area friends: On Monday, August 27, we are participating in a beer pairing dinner at Santa Monica's Rustic Canyon Restaurant (1119 Wilshire Blvd., between 11th and 12th Sts., 310-393-7050). They'll be pairing their farmer's market cuisine not only with Telegraph, but also with beers from Craftsman Brewing in Pasadena, and Lost Abbey Brewing in San Diego County. At $65 per person, this is definitely a high-end event, but it will be an amazing gourmet experience. For more information or to make reservations contact Rustic Canyon directly, or you can visit dinner-organizer, beer-expert, and all-around cool chick Christina Perozzi's "Beer 4 Chx" blog here.

July 20, 2007

Telegraph has some fun events lined up this weekend. On Saturday we'll be pouring beer at the California Wine Festival at Santa Barbara's East Beach from noon until 4 pm. This is a chance to try more than 15 local beers and 200 California wines, all right on the beach with food provided by some of Santa Barbara's favorite restaurants.

Then, on Sunday, Telegraph will be the sole beer sponsor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual Black & Blue Charity Ball. Grab your tux jacket and a good pair of jeans and head down to the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort from 6 to 10 pm and enjoy some California Ale and Golden Wheat Ale paired with tasty hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, and live entertainment from the Edgar Winter Band.

Also on Sunday, if you are down in the San Diego area, a keg of Telegraph's unblended barrel-reserve porter will be pouring at the Stone Brewing Sour Ale Festival, at the Stone World Bistro & Gardens in Escondido. The unblended porter will be on draft at Stone for the next few weeks as well.

Have a great weekend!

June 29, 2007

As if you needed even more reason to come by the Telegraph Tap Room, we've gone ahead and added a dart board. So now in true British fashion, you can enjoy a pint or two and "throw some arrows" with your "mates." But don't worry... our beer is still served cold.

If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, don't miss the 2nd Annual Wieners & Wine party at Cellar 205 (205 Anacapa St. at Yanonali), this Sunday, July 1, from 1 pm until sundown, where you'll be able to enjoy gourmet hotdogs and pulled pork sliders from State Street's newest eatery Lettuce B. Frank, paired with Oreana wines and Telegraph California Ale. With live music, award-winning beer and wine, and great food, this is a terrific warm-up event for the Fourth of July... get your appetites ready!

Speaking of the Fourth, if you need growlers or a keg to help celebrate Independence Day, the brewery will be open for retail sales from 11 am until 2 pm on Wednesday. So come by, grab a growler, and toast America with good American beer!

Next Thursday, July 5, is another First Thursday event in downtown Santa Barbara. On the first Thursday of every month, galleries and art-related businesses keep their doors open until 8 pm to showcase the wealth of local creativity we have here in Santa Barbara. From 5 pm until 8 pm, we'll be pouring beer at Gallery Ten Twenty-Nine (1029 State St., immediately next door to Aldo's) and enjoying the opening reception for the gallery's new show "Celebrate Art".

And finally, we have scheduled another Brewer's Dinner, this time at Bistro 1111 at the Mar Monte Hotel (1111 Cabrillo Blvd.), next Friday, July 6. It will be $30 for a three-course dinner--soup or salad, an entree of fish or chicken, and a dessert--each paired with one of our beers. For reservations or more details, please call the Bistro directly at 730-1111.

June 21, 2007

Aldo's, at 1031 State St., is one of Santa Barbara's oldest Italian restaurants, and they just added Telegraph California Ale to their menu. With summer upon us, their patio right on State Street is a great place to bask in the sun with a cold pint of Telegraph in hand. The food is delicious and the people watching is unbeatable!

Today may be the actual summer solstice, but this Saturday is the big party! Santa Barbara's famous Solstice Parade begins at noon at Cota and State and heads up to Alameda Park for music, dancing, and great food. If you're planning a solstice party of your own, come by for a keg or a few growlers on Saturday afternoon; the Telegraph tasting room will be open from 1 to 4!

June 13, 2007

Don't miss the terrific article in today's Los Angeles Times Food Section about the frothy beer scene here in Santa Barbara. Of course Telegraph gets prominent mention, but more importantly the article does a great job promoting our local region as an emerging hotspot in the microbrew world. So if you haven't visited one of Santa Barbara's local breweries lately, read the article and then get out there and drink some great local beer! You can read the article online here. Free registration for the LA Times website may be required.

Telegraph Stock Porter is now on draft at the two wonderful restaurants located at Montecito's San Ysidro Ranch (900 San Ysidro Lane). The very high-end Stonehouse Restaurant and the more pub-like Plow & Angel are both now featuring Stock Porter along with their famously delicious food. Don't miss the gourmet mac-n-cheese at the Plow & Angel!

Lastly, don't forget that Father's Day is this coming Sunday. What better way is there to say "Thanks, Dad!" than with a fresh growler of one of Telegraph's handcrafted ales? The tasting room will be open for growler sales, as well as pint and keg sales, on Thursday and Friday from 4 to 6, and on Saturday from 1 to 4.

May 25, 2007

The Telegraph crew has a busy Memorial Day weekend planned... if you managed to score one of the hard-to-get tickets to tomorrow's California Festival of Beers at Avila Beach, we will see you there from 11 am to 3 pm. We'll be pouring all four of our current beers--California Ale, Golden Wheat Ale, Stock Porter, and Strong Ale--and enjoying a beautiful afternoon meeting 3,000 beer fans out on the Avila Beach golf course. The festival is sold out, so if you don't have tickets already, we hope you'll make it to another event to see us soon.

For everyone who will be in Santa Barbara this weekend, you shouldn't miss the 21st Annual I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival up at the Mission. The Italian Market at the festival will feature live music, food, and cold Telegraph California Ale all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. This is a great charity event benefiting the Children's Creative Project, which supports art education for elementary school children.

If you find yourself in the Santa Ynez Valley this weekend, or any weekend soon, consider having dinner at American Flatbread (225 W. Bell St., in downtown Los Alamos). Our Telegraph Golden Wheat Ale is a wonderful accompaniment to their incredible wood-fired pizzas made with all-local and all-organic ingredients. The restaurant's hours are limited however: Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 10 pm. It's a great way to end a day of wine tasting in the Valley.

May 3, 2007

The last of our series of three brewer's dinners at Zaffiro Restaurant (in Goleta's Camino Real Center, near Home Depot) is next Wednesday night at 7 pm. The menu will feature four courses, each paired with a Telegraph brew, including beer-steamed mussels matched with our Golden Wheat Ale and a rich, porter-infused, chocolate-espresso cake partnered with our Stock Porter. This is definitely a dinner not to be missed, and at $34.95 per person, is a real bargain. Seating is limited, so to ensure you can attend, call Zaffiro at 968-6201 before the end of this week to make your reservations. We hope to see you there!

Also, we are very pleased that one of Santa Barbara's finest gourmet grocery stores is now carrying Telegraph. Lazy Acres (302 Meigs Rd., at Cliff Dr., on the Mesa) has both California Ale and Golden Wheat Ale in 750-ml bottles on their shelves.

There is a brand-new restaurant in town featuring Telegraph: The Hungry Cat (, 1134 Chapala St. at Anapamu St.) is the local off-shoot of Hollywood's Hungry Cat, created by renowned L.A. chefs David Lentz and Suzanne Goin. The menu features amazingly fresh seafood and shellfish prepared very simply. We can tell you from experience that their crab cakes are incredible! Pair some of their amazing dishes with a pint of Telegraph and you are set for a wonderful meal.

April 12, 2007

We are excited to announce that our tasting room is open! Now you can come by and enjoy pints of brewery-fresh beer at the brewery! You can also taste all the beers we have on tap, including--for a limited time--Telegraph Strong Ale, clocking in at 7.5% alcohol. This special seasonal ale is available only at the brewery in pints and growlers, so be sure you get some while you still can. It is going fast...

Our tasting room hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 6 pm and Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm. Please come by and say hello!

One of Santa Barbara's coolest neighborhood bars, Elsie's, located at 117 W. De La Guerra, now has Telegraph Golden Wheat Ale on their guest tap. If you are looking for a beer tonight or this weekend, head over to Elsie's and thank them for making room for good, local beer on their taps!

For Telegraph fans in the San Luis Obispo area, we'll be visiting the Monterey St. Wine Co. (1255 Monterey St., in downtown SLO, 805-541-1255) on the evening of Thursday, April 5 for a beer tasting from 5 - 8 pm. Brian will be there discussing the beers and pouring our regular line-up. If you are in the area, please come by and say hello and check out a great wine and beer store while you are at it.

And finally... we had a terrific time at our brewer's dinner at J.J. Brewsky's in Camarillo earlier this week; thank you everyone who came out for some terrific beer and food pairings. We have two more dinners planned at Zaffiro Restaurant in Goleta on April 11 and May 9; we'll be pouring the new and intriguing Telegraph Strong Ale at both upcoming dinners. We hope to see you there! Call Zaffiro at (805) 968-6201 for more details and to make reservations for either of the next two beer dinners.

March 15, 2007

We wanted to say thanks to everyone who came to our first Brewer's Dinner at Zaffiro Restaurant Wednesday night. Everyone agreed that the food pairings were terrific (cinnamon- and nutmeg-marinated duck breast with Telegraph California Ale anyone???) and everyone had a great time. We have two more dinners planned at Zaffiro on April 11 and May 9; we'll be pouring the soon-to-be-released Telegraph Strong Ale at both upcoming dinners. We hope to see you there! Call Zaffiro at (805) 968-6201 for more details and to make reservations for either of the next two brewer's dinners.

For Ventura County fans of Telegraph: don't forget about our J.J. Brewsky's (2433 Ventura Blvd., in Camarillo) brewer's dinner on Tuesday, March 27. This will be a similar event to the Zaffiro dinners; we'll be there pouring all the Telegraph beers, including the Strong Ale and a special guest beer, with a five-course tasting menu. Contact the restaurant directly at (805) 482-5249 for more details and to make reservations.

We're also excited to announce a whole crop of new, local places where you can now find Telegraph ales: Cold Spring Tavern, the historic stagecoach-stop restaurant at the top of San Marcos Pass off Highway 154, has Telegraph California Ale on draft. El Rancho Marketplace in Solvang is carrying bottles of Telegraph, as are Red's Cafe in Santa Barbara's funk zone and the 805 Deli at the corner of Carrillo St. and Santa Barbara St. In downtown Goleta, you can find Telegraph bottles at Angelo's Liquors at 5599 Hollister Ave. at Kellogg Ave.; and, in Isla Vista, our bottles are available at Keg & Bottle, located at 915 Embarcadero del Mar.

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone... and remember to celebrate with fresh, local beer!

February 28, 2007

We have lots of great events coming up in the next few months, including beer festivals, tastings, and dinners, and you'll be the first to hear about them by checking this page often. For now, we want to tell you about the brewer's dinners we have planned. Telegraph will be doing a series of three Wednesday night brewer's dinners at Zaffiro restaurant at the Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta, on March 14, April 11, and May 9. The three dinners will be different, but all will feature pairings of each of the Telegraph beers with a different course. As an added bonus, we'll be pouring our new Telegraph Strong Ale, clocking in at nearly 7.5% alcohol, at the second and third dinners. Both Zaffiro's executive chef Amy McNelis and Telegraph's Brian Thompson will be on hand discussing the food and beer, so you'll learn something in addition to enjoying a great meal. Reservations are required and seats are limited so call Zaffiro at 968-6201 to ensure that you don't miss out on what will undoubtedly be three very fun evenings!

Ventura County folks have a chance to enjoy a brewer's dinner as well. We will be at J.J. Brewsky's in Camarillo on Tuesday, March 27. This dinner will also feature Telegraph's full line up, including the new Strong Ale, with each beer again being paired with a different course. If you are interested in attending this dinner, please call the restaurant at 482-5249 for reservations.

Our bottled beer is available at two more stores here in Santa Barbara: JJ's Liquors and Deli (311 Castillo St., at Montecito St.) and Santa Barbara Liquor (1015 De La Vina, at Carrillo St.). Stop in soon and grab a bottle or two to enjoy at home!

February 14, 2007

Happy Velentine's Day! Remember, nothing makes your valentine's heart beat faster than fresh, local beer (well, maybe a few things do...). But bottles of Telegraph do make for a great Valentine's gift, especially our California Ale or Stock Porter paired with some nice handmade chocolate truffles. Mmmmm!

You can find our bottles at a couple more retailers in Ventura County: Mandell's Liquor & Wine Shop (3915 Telegraph Rd., in Ventura) and The Wine Castle (4711 Telephone Rd., in Ventura) both have our California Ale and Golden Wheat Ale on their shelves.

January 25, 2007

Looking to improve your bowling game? Or maybe you want to fill your kitchen cabinet with Telegraph logo glassware? Then don't miss our Zodo's Pint Night next Wednesday, January 31, from 10 - midnight. The first hundred pints of Telegraph California Ale will be served in a stemmed logo glass that you get to keep! Zodo's is located at 5925 Calle Real, near Fairview, in Goleta.

If you are looking for Telegraph bottles in Ventura County, you needn't look any further than Best Buy International (2161 Pickwick Dr., in Camarillo) or Conejo Valley Liquor (2341 Michael Dr., in Newbury Park). Here in Santa Barbara, our bottles can now be found at Hi-Time Liquor (4010 Calle Real, near Highway 154). And finally, if you find yourself in the Santa Ynez Valley and it is beer rather than wine that you are craving, Telegraph bottles can be had at the Wine Country Tasting Room (2445 Alamo Pintado Ave., in the heart of downtown Los Olivos) and at the Los Olivos Grocery (2621 Highway 154 in Los Olivos).

Moving even further a field, Santa Cruz fans of Telegraph can now find our California Ale at Cava Wine Bar (115 San Jose Ave., in Capitola) along with a great selection of small-producer California wines and artisan beers. Cheers!

January 5, 2007

Happy new year, everyone! We hope your 2007 is off to a good start. Our year is starting well, because Telegraph California Ale is now available on draft at Zaffiro, formerly Pascucci's Goleta, located in the Camino Real Marketplace near Home Depot and Costco. All your Italian favorites are still on the Zaffiro menu, all that has changed is the name (and, of course, they have improved their beer list!). While you are there, be sure to check out our new Telegraph Brewing neon sign in the Zaffiro bar!

Also, our 750-ml, cork-finished bottles are now available at wine-retailer Vino Divino (2012 De La Vina St., at Mission St.). We're delighted to have Telegraph on their shelves. If you haven't been, this is definitely a shop worth visiting.

November 30, 2006

We wanted to remind everyone about the Telegraph Winter Ale Launch Party at Muddy Waters Cafe (508 E. Haley St.) this Saturday night. Beer specials will run from 6 pm to midnight and the DJs will start spinning around 7:30. Our Winter Ale is a rich and chocolately dark beer with earthy aromas and hints of spice, perfect for these uncharacteristically cold nights we've been having. The party will be a great way to kick off the holiday season... don't miss it! We hope to see you there.

Also, for those of you who can still manage to stay out late on a Wednesday night, next week we'll be hosting a Telegraph Pint Night at Zodo's Bowling & Beyond (5925 Calle Real in Goleta). Starting at 10 pm on Wednesday, December 6, the first hundred pints of Telegraph will be served in one of our new stemmed logo glasses which will be yours to take home! So come on out and say hello and party like you don't have to be at work at 9 am Thursday morning...

November 16, 2006

You can now find Telegraph on draft at Muddy Waters Cafe (508 E. Haley St.). Muddy Waters is just around the corner from the brewery and has both California Ale and Stock Porter on tap. The same can be said for the DogHouse (730 N. Milpas St., at De La Guerra), where you can pair both California Ale and Stock Porter with their fine hot dogs, sliders, pulled pork sandwiches, and other delights.

October 12, 2006

Hey, Ventura fans of Telegraph! Telegraph Stock Porter is now available at the SideCar Restaurant, located at 3029 E. Main St., near Telegraph Road. This is a classic old-California restaurant in a Pullman-style train car that has been given a gourmet makeover... think jumbo scallops with sweet corn risotto and braised short ribs with horseradish mashed potatoes. Getting hungry? Well, head over to the Sidecar for a fresh pint of Telegraph and some delicious California cuisine!

October 6, 2006

We can't think of a better way to celebrate the arrival of autumn than by pairing Telegraph California Ale with another favorite seasonal delicacy: locally caught spiny lobster. The best place to do just that is the Santa Barbara Shellfish Company located on Stearns Wharf, where you can enjoy a perfect pint of Telegraph and deliciously fresh seafood. Lobster season just opened last weekend and these tasty treats will only be available through the winter... so head down to the Wharf, grab a pint, enjoy the view, and celebrate the season Santa Barbara style!

October 2, 2006

Telegraph Stock Porter is now available at the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort. Their Barra Los Arcos has a nice selection of local beers and we are very pleased to have our porter in the line-up. The bar's great outdoor patio, with its fireplace and expansive views of East Beach, is worth checking out... don't let the tourists have all the fun!

There is a terrific event for all you beer lovers coming up soon... the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is hosting The Natural History of Beer on Sunday, October 15. Not only will you be able to learn about beer and have ample opportunity to ask those burning questions about brewing, you'll also sample some terrific local beers, including Telegraph, paired with delicious food from local restaurants. This is an event not to be missed! Check out the Museum Events Calendar at for more information.

September 18, 2006

I find that one of the most rewarding aspects about being a brewer is hearing from beer enthusiasts and casual beer drinkers alike about how much they enjoy drinking Telegraph beer. When someone faced with a long line-up of taps, or with retail shelves packed with so many different microbrews, chooses to drink one of our handcrafted ales over all the others, I take that as the highest compliment. But it is also very flattering to have the quality of our beers recognized and acknowledged by trained beer judges and beer industry professionals. And that is why we are so excited to announce that Telegraph Golden Wheat Ale recently won a gold medal and Telegraph California Ale won a bronze medal in the Belgian and French-Style Ale category at the 2006 Los Angeles County Fair Commercial Beer Competition. You can see results for all the categories here.

In celebration of these awards, our gold-medal winning Golden Wheat Ale has replaced our California Ale on draft at Elements Restaurant located at 129 E. Anapamu St., in downtown Santa Barbara. With its views of the Courthouse and the sunken gardens, Elements is a terrific placed to enjoy a nice, cold Telegraph after work or anytime.

Also, we are excited to tell you that Spike's, located at 570 Higuera St. in downtown San Luis Obispo, now has both Telegraph California Ale and Telegraph Golden Wheat Ale on draft. Spike's is one of the best beer bars in California, ranking right up there with Father's Office in Santa Monica and the great Toronado in San Francisco, and we are delighted that two of our brews have joined their extremely well-edited beer list. Stop in soon and their knowledgeable bartenders will take good care of you!

August 25, 2006

Good news for all the Ventura County fans of the brewery: Telegraph Stock Porter is now on tap at J.J. Brewsky's Restaurant & Bar, located in downtown Camarillo, at 2433 Ventura Blvd. Brewsky's is a stylish place, featuring bistro-style food and 15 beers on tap; the historic building in which it is located has high ceilings, lots of light, and a great bar that stretches the entire length of the restaurant. It is a great place to linger over a couple pints. And now that Brewsky's good selection of beer is even better, it is definitely worth a visit!

Also, you can now find Telegraph Golden Wheat Ale at Square One restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara, at 14 E. Cota St. That means Square One is now the first and only establishment to have the entire line-up of Telegraph beers... California Ale, Stock Porter, and Golden Wheat Ale. Stop in soon!

August 14, 2006

More good news from the brewery: Telegraph California Ale is now on tap at the Montecito Cafe and Bar, located in the Montecito Inn at 1295 Coast Village Road. If you haven't been to the Cafe, you are missing out. Their California cuisine is terrific and our California Ale is the perfect accompaniment to their great food. (Don't miss the coconut cake for dessert!)

We are also excited to tell everyone that Telegraph is now equipped to accept credit cards. You no longer need to hit the ATM before coming by to get your growlers... we're happy to take plastic. And be sure to check out our new Telegraph glassware the next time you visit the brewery: in addition to our standard pint glasses, we now have stemmed beer glasses to elevate your beer drinking experience to an even higher plane. Impress your friends with your sophistication and good taste... come over and buy a whole set! Cheers.

July 24, 2006

We wanted to thank everyone who came out to one of our three events this past weekend! If you missed your opportunity to try our brand-new Golden Wheat Ale Friday evening at the Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club, Saturday afternoon at the Third Annual Santa Barbara Beer Festival and Motor Classic, or Sunday night at the Black & Blue Ball benefiting the MDA, don't worry... there is plenty available at the brewery to fill your half-gallon growlers.

Don't forget that next week, August 2 - 6, Santa Barbara's favorite Old Spanish Days Fiesta will be in full swing. Be sure to celebrate our city's heritage with Santa Barbara's newest microbrewed beers from Telegraph... Telegraph California Ale is on draft at many Fiesta hotspots downtown including Q's (409 State St.), The James Joyce (513 State St.), and Elements Restaurant & Bar (129 E. Anapamu St.). We'll also be pouring beer at the Fiesta Finale at the Courthouse on Sunday, August 6. Viva la Fiesta!

July 14, 2006

We are happy to tell you that half-gallon growlers of Telegraph California Ale are now available at Cities BBQ (901 N. Milpas, at Canon Perdido). If it is good ribs you are looking for, Cities is the place to go, and the perfect accompaniment to that delicious slow-cooked meat is a cold jug of Telegraph. Also, you can now get Telegraph Stock Porter somewhere other than the brewery... Square One restaurant (14 E. Cota St.) has both our Stock Porter and California Ale on tap. Not only is Square One a creative and wonderfully interesting place to eat, it also has a stylish bar, perfect for a hand-crafted beer to start your evening off properly.

We also wanted to tell all of you about the Third Annual Santa Barbara Beer Festival and Motor Classic, which will be held at Elings Park on Saturday, July 22, from 11 to 4. We will be there debuting our brand-new Golden Wheat Ale and you will be able to sample beers from dozens of other great microbreweries, as well. Beautiful summer weather, cold beer, classic cars... it will be a terrific event! Hope to see you there!

We want to send a special thanks to all the golfers who participated in the third annual KTYD 99.9 FM “Rockin’ on the Fairway” Golf Classic last month.

Telegraph was out pouring beer samples at the 11th tee and we had a great time meeting the golfers and enjoying a beautiful afternoon away from the brewery! The event was a terrific benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara and everyone had a lot of fun. Check out some pictures on our events page.

May 5 , 2006

Another great local restaurant is now pouring Telegraph! Elements Restaurant & Bar (129 E. Anapamu) now has our California Ale on tap. Better still, all pints are $1 off during their after-work happy hour every weekday. Enjoy the terrific view of the Courthouse and the sunken garden with a fresh pint of locally made beer in hand and remember why you live in Santa Barbara!

Also, great news for Los Angeles-area fans of Telegraph: our half-gallon growlers are now available at Barney’s Beanery on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade. And there is no better way to wash down their big portions than with an even bigger jug of Telegraph!

April 5 , 2006

All the pool sharks out there will be happy to learn that Telegraph California Ale is now on tap at Q’s Billiard Club (409 State St.)! So if you’ve got game, pull out your best Tom Cruise impersonation and start hustling your friends for free pints of Telegraph!

For those among you who are handy in the kitchen (or at least not intimidated by turning on the stove!) this week we are including a recipe for Telegraph Pot Roast. This is perfect comfort food for these rainy nights we’ve been having, and paired with a pint of brewery-fresh California Ale, it is the perfect excuse to stay in and stay dry. If you occasionally have trouble finishing a growler before the last pint starts going flat, this is a terrific way to use what you don’t drink

Telegraph Pot Roast
(serves 6 to 8 depending on size of roast):

Rub a 3-4 lb chuck roast all over with salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Brown the roast in a large, heavy pot with 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat, 3-4 minutes per side. Remove meat to a plate and add to the pot one large onion, diced, and two carrots, diced. Sautee the vegetables until soft, about 5-8 minutes. Now add 1¼ cups Telegraph California Ale, 3 tablespoons of ketchup, and a bay leaf to the pot with the vegetables. Bring the liquid to a boil and return the meat to the pot. Cook the meat until an instant-read thermometer reads 200F, about an hour and a half. Then add 2-3 cups of potatoes and carrots cut into 1½ inch pieces and cook for an additional 20 minutes. You should have perfectly cooked vegetables and a very tender roast swimming in a deliciously rich beer gravy. You can thicken the gravy, if necessary, by reducing it in the pot after removing the meat and veggies. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and enjoy!

March 28, 2006

Bouchon (9 West Victoria St., call 730-1160 for reservations) is widely recognized as one of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara.
